We have noted some trips and sights around Lake Constance and hints for a holiday with sporting activities, rambling, cycling, sailing, diving, surfing and others. Lake Constance is great for cyclists. The banks of the lake but also the hills nearby are suitable for day trips on a bike. The tours are all different distances so that all cyclists can manage the shorter ones, the more experienced can combine several tours in a day. In the summer the weather is similar to the Mediterranean and in the autumn the so-called Indian Summer is wonderful. If you come to Lake Constance in the spring, you will definitely want to come again to see the trees and bulbs in flower, an unforgettable sight.
Families with children can have a wonderful time at Lake Constance if they take a holiday house or flat, where they can be more independent and fewer people are disturbed by the children playing. The camping areas are all very well equipped. Not only young people but also families can have a good time there. Many camping areas have such a high standard that everyone is satisfied. Camping is only allowed on designated areas. If you would prefer to have a “Wellness” holiday, ( massage, sauna and pampering) there are plenty of hotels to choose from especially in the spas Meersburg and Überlingen.
Lake Constance consists of four countries, a lake and a million activities.
Long popular with holidaymakers looking for a rest but also lovers of Art and the beautiful countryside and now gourmets and lovers of sport come frequently to this lake in south Germany. Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the principality, Liechtenstein all have a part of the region. People travel to discover and see something new and different and at Lake Constance you will be amply satisfied every year with something else. It´s difficult to be bored here with new offers every year organized by the hotels and the Tourist Board. This year is no exception! Here is a suggestion: after breakfast in Germany ,climb a mountain in Switzerland for lunch and spend the evening in Bregenz watching an opera,. Or you could hire an open car, drive through the mountains and enjoy a “ Latte Macciato” in Italy. It´s all only a short distance away and a short trip on a boat brings you across the lake.
Mainau, the Island of Flowers, is like a green jewel set in the sparkling blue lake – you could almost believe it is spring all year round – Mainau offers something for every season, plants with different colours and scents rarely to be seen anywhere else. Lennart Bernadotte, deceased on 21.12.2004, conceived , designed and brought his dream on Mainau to fruition which has had great influence on the whole region.
The Benedictine monastery on the island of Reichenau already possessed great influence in the religious spheres in medieval times. Unesco has designated the island with its three churches built between the ninth and twelfth centuries as Weltkulturerbe.
Meersburg, a town with 5500 inhabitants has an old town centre well worth seeing. It was one of the first towns where an effort was made to preserve the older buildings as a whole. Due to this we can now enjoy the atmosphere of a medieval town with narrow streets and carefully restored buildings
